Caught American Beauty today for the second time. The first time being watching it late night on Channel 5 back like when I was 10. if I remembered it was wayyyyyyy over-censored, and way too boring for my 10-year old brain to enjoy it. My brother liked it back then, But I couldn't understand why.

Story's about a family in modern day America, the Burnhams. What seems to be a typical family is not what it seems. Father's a quote-unquote "horny-geek boy" who wants to fuck his daughter's friend. Mother's a typical mother who wants the best for her family, but gets too caught up by doing what she can to improve the family, and the daughter is a typical resentful 16-year old who hates herself and her parents.

I won't go in depth about the plot of the movie, but all I wanted to say is what drew me in to this movie, was that the representation of real life. Although over-dramatic at times, the movie is a satire of modern life, what is believed our lives are, but instead what it actually is. A pokefunnery or the picturesque American Dream. But however, beneath it all, is a message that underneath this fucked-up family, one can still end up finding beauty in the life they are living, Which is what Ricky Fitts, the neighbour's son, reminds us of.

I won't recommend this movie for the typical movie watchers due to the slightly-abstract concept of the movie, but if you want something that is way different from the movies today, I suggest you look it up.
